ClarificationKARACHI (March 12, 2010): It is clarified that the member directors of the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) proposed the name of Hussain Lawai as Chairman of Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited (CDC) in the board meeting held on Tuesday. The nominated directors opposed the proposal in relation to nomination of Hussain Lawai for the said post and the KSE chairman used his casting vote right against the nomination of Hussain Lawai.

THE RUPEE: dollar eases furtherKARACHI (March 11, 2010): The rupee extended overnight gains against dollar on the local currency market on Wednesday after recovering modest ground during the last session, money experts said. On the interbank market the rupee retained its upward move versus dollar and gained five paisa at 84.50 and 84.55 for buying and selling, they said.

17 percent increase in July-February remittancesKARACHI (March 11, 2010): Remittances sent from overseas Pakistanis continued to show rising trend as $5,786.89 million was received in eight months (July-February period) of the current fiscal year, showing an increase of $868.26 million, or 17.65 percent, from $4,918.73 million of the same period of last fiscal year. This amount includes $1.0 million received through encashment and profit earned on Foreign Exchange Bearer Certificates (FEBCs) and Foreign Currency Bearer Certificates (FCBCs).
