Neelum Jhelum Hydroelectric Project: IDB to give $220 million moreISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has reportedly agreed to extend $220 million for 969 MW Neelum Jhelum Hydroelectric Project (NJHEP) in addition to $138 million which has already been leased, official sources told Business Recorder. Sources said that IDB is leasing $138 million for some of the civil work components of the Neelum Jhelum Hydroelectric Project (NJHEP).

SSGC implements gas load management planKARACHI (September 08, 2010): Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has implemented gas load management plan in the wake of fresh floods. Due to an unprecedented flood situation in Sindh, the nearby Zamzama Gas Field substantially decreased SSGC's share of production from 240 mmcfd on to 70 mmcfd on September 6, 2010, the company in a press release issued here on Tuesday said.

Supply from Zamzama gas field reducedLAHORE (September 08, 2010): As a consequence of floods, supply from Zamzama gas field has reduced. Presently, this shortfall is being met by curtailing gas supply to the power sector. Since water level is still increasing, gas supply may totally be discontinued, resulting in further worsening of the demand/supply situation.

Gas exploration: OGDCL to drill 11 wells in BalochistanISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has planned to drill 11 development wells in Uch Gas field area of Balochistan. Two wells are already being drilled while drilling of planned wells will start during current financial year. Seismic data acquisition work has been planed to delineate a drillable structure at the field.

Producing E-10 gasoline: Punjab denies excise duty exemption to PSOISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): The Punjab government has declined to grant exemption of excise duty and allow procurement of denatured fuel ethanol on zero duty to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for producing E-10 gasoline, Business Recorder has learnt. "We had requested Punjab government on behalf of ethanol producers to grant exemption in duties for producing E-10 gasoline," PSO Managing Director Irfan Qureshi said while talking to Business Recorder.

Government withdraws subsidised fuel facility from KESC: consumers to face over six hours loadsheddingKARACHI (September 08, 2010): The government has withdrawn subsidised fuel facility to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) while Wapda restores supply of over 650 megawatts to it. KESC, as per the understanding made in the 'Energy Summit' held in Islamabad in April 2010, was enjoying supply of furnace oil at the rate of gas for the last few months, has been deprived of the facility from August, sources said.

Power shortfall rises to 3,000 megawattsLAHORE (September 08, 2010): Power shortfall has risen to 3000MW during last 24 hours, particularly due to increase in demand out of fairly hot and humid weather. Power consumers, both domestic and commercial, faced long spells of load shedding in the city. Worries of the Pepco-fed textile units have also started piling up, as any further increase in electricity demand may lead to withdrawal of exemption extended to them by the government.

Marketing Thar coal projects: 'Incentives Package' developedISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): In order to market Thar coal projects, a comprehensive incentives package has been developed in consultation with all stakeholders, to be put before the Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet for approval. Sources in the Planning Commission said that in this comprehensive package a 30-year exemption on corporate tax and minimum turnover tax to mine & power plant operators from the date of first sale as available to IPPs has been suggested.
