20 killed in Kohat blast
PESHAWAR (September 08, 2010): Twenty people, including two children, were killed and 45 others were injured in a suicide car bomb blast on Tuesday evening at Police Lines Colony, Kohat, about 60 km south of here. The KP police chief, Fiaz Ahmed Khan Toru, confirmed the death of two children and wounding of 18 others, who were shifted to hospital s. The district police said that it was apparently a car bomb that ripped through the police headquarters after Iftar time.



Three cops injured in Hangu blast
PESHAWAR (September 08, 2010): Three policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) were injured in a bomb blast at Hangu by-pass road on Tuesday. According to police, the blast occurred at a time when the vehicle of police officials was passing through in the area. The target of the terrorist activity was policemen, they added. DSP Hangu, Farid Khan received injuries along with two constables who were taken to district Headquarters hospital for emergency treatment.



Pakistani Taliban threaten more suicide attacks
MIRANSHAH (September 08, 2010): Pakistan's Taliban on Tuesday threatened more suicide attacks on security forces and government offices, challenging authorities already overwhelmed by the worst floods in the country's history. The al Qaeda-linked group has killed nearly 120 people in suicide bombings since resuming a bloody campaign last week to topple the government after a one-month lull during the floods.



Jolie says Pakistan needs long-term help
JALLOZAI (September 08, 2010): Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie called on Tuesday for constant and long-term assistance for Pakistan to help it cope with its worst ever floods that have wreaked havoc on the impoverished country. The disaster has killed more than 1,750 people, affected more than 18 million and inflicted nearly $43 billion worth of damage to infrastructure and agriculture, the mainstay of the economy, since it began more than a month ago.



Relief goods arrive from Bahrain
KARACHI (September 08, 2010): A plane carrying relief goods donated by government of Bahrain arrived here on Tuesday. The relief goods were received by the Consul General of Bahrain in Karachi, Adil Abdul Rehman Taqi and delivered to Lieutenant Colonel Salim Rao of Pakistan Army at the airport.



China to send additional relief goods worth $12 million: deal signed
ISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): The signing ceremony of handing-over certificate regarding delivery of humanitarian goods worth RMB 80 million (US $12 million) was held in Economic Affairs Division between the Government of Pakistan and the People's Republic of China. The delivery of the goods will be completed through nine special cargo flights. The delivery of these goods will be completed through nine special cargo flights.



Pakistan situation worsening; 21 million affected: UN
GENEVA (September 08, 2010): The situation in Pakistan, where 21 million people have been affected by historic floods, is worsening, the United Nations said Tuesday. "The situation is worsening as we now have almost 21 million people directly affected by these floods," said Elisabeth Byrs, spokeswoman at the Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs.



UN urges Pakistan for transparent aid distribution
ISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): The United Nations on Tuesday urged Pakistan to set up a credible mechanism to ensure that foreign aid was reaching millions of flood victims, many of whom are still without food and shelter. International aid stalled last week over fears of corruption and bureaucratic inefficiency, prompting the UN to pressure Pakistan to guarantee transparency.



Gilani congratulates new Prime Minister of Australia
ISLAMABAD (September 08, 2010): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has felicitated Julia Gillard on her election as Prime Minister of Australia. In his message, the Prime Minister said, "It gives me great pleasure to extend to you our warmest felicitations on your election as the Prime Minister of Australia."



PAF observes Martyrs Day
KARACHI (September 08, 2010): Pakistan Air Force (PAF) observed 7 the September as Martyrs Day at all PAF Bases throughout the country. A PAF statement here on Tuesday said that the day started with special Du'a and Quran Khawani for the Shuhada of 1965 and 1971 wars and those who died in action since creation of Pakistan.
