Budget 2010-11: PIAF terms certain taxation measures disastrous
LAHORE (June 09, 2010): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has termed certain taxation measures, announced in the federal budget 2010-11, as disastrous for both trade and industry and stressed need for them to be withdrawn in the larger interest of the economy of the country. It said one percent increase in the rate of sales tax is bound to complicate the economic scenario beyond the perception of the policymakers.



Government likely to revise duty structure on import of PTA, PSF
ISLAMABAD (June 04, 2010): The government is likely to revise duty structure on import of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) from 7.5 percent to 3 percent and Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) from 4 to 6 percent in the upcoming budget 2010-11, Business Recorder has learnt reliably.



Budget 2010-11: EDB submits 200 tariff adjustment proposals to FBR
ISLAMABAD (June 04, 2010): Engineering Development Board (EDB), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, has submitted 200 tariff adjustment proposals to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for the budget 2010-11. This has been disclosed in a meeting chaired by Minister for Industries and Production, Mir Hazar Khan, Bijarani on the performance of EDB and its future plans.



Special package in budget for tribal areas demanded
PESHAWAR (June 04, 2010): President, Tribal Areas Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TACCI), Mohammad Akbar Khan advocate has demanded announcement of a special package for the development of tribal areas, in the budget for financial year 2010-11. In a statement issued here on Thursday, he called for provision of soft loans to the business community of Fata/Pata and establishment of peace for the development of the insurgency affected areas.



Budget 2010-11: traders and industrialists urge government to abstain from imposing new taxes
KARACHI (June 03, 2010): Traders and industrialists have urged government to cut down its expenditures and refrain from imposing new taxes in the forthcoming budget 2010-11. They also urged authorities to adopt measures to curb pilferage in taxes, which amounts to Rs 750 billion.



Agriculture sector should be exempted from VAT: SAB submits budgetary proposals
HYDERABAD (June 03, 2010): Sindh Abadgar Board has proposed to prepare comprehensive benchmark survey, rehabilitation plan on the basis of the bsurvey, future plan and financing on urgent basis in order to maintain water quality in Sindh. The President Sindh Abadgar Board Abdul Majeed Nizamani presented this proposal to government in his budget proposals, which he unveiled while addressing a news conference here on Wednesday.



Budget proposals: APMDA seeks fixed duty on above 1800cc cars
ISLAMABAD (May 30, 2010): All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association (APMDA) on Saturday asked the government to impose fixed duty rate on the import of vehicles above 1800cc, sources told Business Recorder. They said that APMDA in its budget proposals for the next fiscal year, 2010-11, suggested to the government that fixed duty rate on the import of vehicles above 1800cc would help prevent revenue loss and would also eliminate the variation of taxes in various parts of the country.



Forthcoming budget: ICCI concerned over possible elimination of subsidies
ISLAMABAD (May 23, 2010): Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has shown great concerns over government's move to eliminate subsidies on power tariff, fertiliser and sugar in the coming budget and termed it an unfavourable decision, saying that especially in the present conditions, as it will further raise inflation and cost of doing business in the country.



Budget 2010-11: Need for pro-growth tax policies
ARTICLE (May 14, 2010): Over the period, our tax system has become rotten, oppressive, unjust and target-oriented. There is a dire need to discuss the philosophical framework and principles that should be the main concern of our tax policy.



ABC suggestions on budget, trade policy
ISLAMABAD (May 09, 2010): The American Business Council (ABC), Pakistan has put forward a number of suggestions to the federal government for the forthcoming budget and trade policy which, according to it, would improve investment climate and encourage export-oriented industry. According to the Council, Pakistan's projected growth rate will be around 3 percent during the current fiscal year.
